Honey Bee Facts
Thickening Honey
Once back in the hive after collecting nectar, the honey bees drop the honey into the comb. Because nectar is 80% water and honey is between 14 and 18% water, the honey bees then fan their wings to evaporate the water, thickening the honey and enhancing its nutritional aspects. Once done, the honeycomb is capped with wax for storage.
