Honey Bee Facts
Worker Bees
The female bees, which are better known as the worker bees, have a lifespan of 6 to 8 weeks – and will only produce one twelfth and a teaspoon of honey in their lifetime. That means it takes a group of 12 bees to produce one teaspoon of honey. These worker bees can only work in the summer and they can only forage for nectar if the temperature is right, not only that, over 2 million flowers need to be visited in order for the colony to produce just under half a kilogram of honey.
