Sustainable Upliftment

What is the Outgrower Programme?

The Outgrower Programme partners with landowners who want to establish beekeeping on their property while creating skills and income opportunities.

The Bee Effect encourages partners to establish their beekeeping upliftment programmes through African Honey Bee's training programme. We also recognise partners who have the expertise to deliver their own training, provided it supports the same commitment to developing skilled beekeepers and healthy honey bee populations.

A landowner trains a Bee Champion, who then mentors other trainees, known as Newbees. Each Newbee receives practical and theoretical training, a complete starter kit, and ongoing support.

In return, Newbees sell an agreed portion of their honey back to the landowner, helping repay the initial investment while building their own beekeeping enterprise.

The programme creates skilled beekeepers, strengthens rural livelihoods, and grows healthy honey bee populations across the region.

Safe Bee Havens

Safe Haven partners provide secure, toxin-free habitats where honey bees can thrive. They can then opt to develop beekeeping through our Beekeeper Outgrower Programme, creating opportunities for both people and pollinators.

Together, these types of partnerships help protect biodiversity, strengthen local honey bee populations, and support sustainable beekeeping.
