Trees for Bees – Bodhi Khaya

After 8 years of reforestation at Platbos Forest, the reserve has now been fully replanted, with contributions from our Trees for Bees pledge fund.

Greenpop’s planting efforts in the Overberg valley is now growing and they’ll be planting trees in pockets of previously forested land on neighbouring properties. Their first partner is Bodhi Khaya Nature Retreat, where they have been planting since March 2021.

OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE OF THE CURRENT PROJECT

• To contribute towards strategic restoration of degraded land through tree planting and alien vegetation management.
• To encourage natural regeneration which eventually mimics natural forest habitat, helps to connect fragmented forest patches, and assists in the dispersal of plants and animals within and between forest and grassland mosaics.
• To provide a functional ecosystem (increased water availability, reduced fire risk, improved soil quality).
