A Natural Remedy for Modern Times
For centuries, bees have been more than just pollinators; they’ve been healers. Across diverse cultures, honeybee products have been used to treat ailments ranging from wounds to inflammation. Now, South Africa is embracing this ancient wisdom through a series of apitherapy workshops aimed at integrating bee-based therapies into contemporary wellness practices.
Upcoming Apitherapy Workshops in South Africa
In June 2025, South Africa will host a groundbreaking series of apitherapy workshops led by Dr. Stefan Stangaciu, President of the International Federation of Apitherapy. These events will explore the medicinal power of bee products and offer practical training on their safe and effective use.
The 2025 South African Apitherapy Workshop Tour spans four regions, offering participants across the country a chance to experience this transformative learning firsthand. The journey begins in Pretoria and Johannesburg on June 11–12, followed by Nelspruit in Mpumalanga from June 13–15. The workshops then move to KwaZulu-Natal on June 17–18, and conclude in the Western Cape from June 20–22.
Apitherapy refers to the use of honeybee products—such as honey, propolis, royal jelly, beeswax, and bee venom—for therapeutic purposes. These natural substances have long been recognized for their health benefits.
WHAT IS APITHERAPY
Honey is valued for its antimicrobial properties and is commonly used for wound healing and digestive support; propolis, a resin-like substance, offers antibacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits for oral and skin health; royal jelly, rich in nutrients, is believed to enhance immunity and brain function; and bee venom, often used in arthritis therapies, contains compounds that may help reduce pain and inflammation.
Modern research continues to explore these benefits, with studies indicating potential in areas like wound healing, pain relief, immune support, and even neurological protection.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
These workshops are open to a wide audience. Whether you’re a healthcare professional, wellness practitioner, beekeeper, researcher, pharmacist, or simply someone passionate about natural health, you’ll find value in this immersive “Bee the Future” learning experience.
